Ever Want to Own an F-4 Phantom? Now You Can
Who hasn’t dreamed of being a fighter pilot? For many, the idea of soaring through the sky at breakneck speeds, executing barrel rolls, and otherwise taking to the skies is the stuff of fantasy. But now, thanks to Platinum Fighters, it doesn’t have to be, as long as you have the right amount of cash.
For the low, low price of $3.95 million, you can now purchase your own F-4 Phantom II from Platinum Fighters.
The aircraft is a pre-production variant, the McConnell Douglas F4H-1F Phantom II, and only 45 were ever built featuring an early version of the J-79 turbojet, according to a report by Task and Purpose.
These fighters aren’t fully operational in their current form but are reportedly very close to being flight ready.
At this price, these F-4 Phantoms, the first in the aircraft family featuring hard points for carrying bombs, are certainly a splurge.
However, if you have the money, it is indeed a unique item to own.
Keep in mind that the nearly $4 million price tag doesn’t include what it takes to get the aircraft operational.
Specific upgrades may also be necessary. Items like ejection seats can also be purchased online, though most are likely de-commissioned and designed more as collector’s items than working models.
Additionally, other expenses, like fuel, would add up fast, so it’s important to understand the full scope of the investment if you plan to take it for a spin.
